Black, Red and beige

Reminiscent of Czech illustrator Josef Čapek's work, these beautiful and retro looking teaser posters for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan were unveiled last week. We're not really sure who designed them, but they're part of the international promotional package for the film.
Starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis amongst others, Black Swan is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated features of this season. With this new project described as a psychological thriller the Requiem for a Dream director takes us into the world of New York City ballet and we can't wait to see the result.

Romain Gavras is known for his controversial music videos (Justice's 'Stress'& M.I.A. and for being his daddy's son. He recently presented his latest project 'Notre Jour viendra' {'Our day will come'} during the TIFF.
Gavras' first feature film 'Notre Jour viendra' is centered around Patrick played by Vincent Cassel and Remy, two enigmatic characters who embark on a hallucinatory journey to Ireland...
The movie also features an incredible soundtrack by Ed Bangers' Sebastian.

An American Masterpiece

Shot in 1977 by, then UCLA graduate student Charles Burnett, Killer Sheep only got its official - limited- theatre release in 2007.
Centered around of Stan, a slaughterhouse worker in his his late 30s, Killer of Sheep is not your typical narrative; Burnett  skilfully shows us snapshots of different episodes of this character's life.
Shot on 16mm film the cinematography is superbe. From the long sequence in the slaughterhouse to the intimate close-ups of the characters, the images are stunning and touching.

PS: Rapper Mos Def used a still from the movie as the cover for his 2009 The Estatic

Olly Moss

Being a huge fans of movie posters, I was immediately seduced by the work of Jamie Bolton and Olly Moss. Both designers give an interesting twist to some classic American flicks; it's not so much about the actors or even the directors but more about the art.

Flying Fashions
